Good Morning All
Now here’s the weirdest thing … usually I access this blog and sit for a moment and wonder what nonsense I can bore/amuse/astound you with, but today a hundred thoughts are whizzing around in my head. This is most unusual and of course I don’t know now what to release and what to keep caged.
I think the first thing I have to mention is my friend Jo’s blog, which I read first thing. She is up in arms over animal cruelty and in my opinion rightly so. Her blog actually rattled my cage somewhat. The whole idea of animals being skinned whilst still alive is disgusting and immoral. I am going to tell you something now and this will confirm, in your eyes, that I am a nut case.
When we took down the two sheds at the weekend we came across several spiders. Two of them were at least 2 inches wide, possibly more. They had been living in the old dry shed and enjoying a period of gentle sleep. One fell onto the snow and after looking hugely confused for several seconds attempted to stagger off. I shouted at Richard not to move as the spider headed his way. Gently I caught it and re-established it in the greenhouse, next to the pile of plant pots and old canes.
Now I’m not saying that I saved that spiders life because it obviously shouldn’t be awake just now but I gave it a fighting chance. And yes, it was only a spider. But who in God’s sweet heaven am I to say that I have the right to kill a living creature? It would have given me no pleasure. So yes if that makes me a nut case so be it.
I also fish out bees and ladybirds from rain-barrels.
Sometimes nature makes me cry. But that is nature. It isn’t some half-witted, little, insensitive shit who sees nothing wrong in making animals scream in terrified pain as their skin is ripped from their quivering bodies. As God is my witness – if I could punch these people in their smug faces I would and I would take the consequences. Lets put these people up against a human being and see how brave they are then. In fact why bother? Let’s just shoot the bastards.
Argghh!!! Now I’m ranting and right peed off and all the other fluffy, happy stuff that I was going to mention has flown out of my head!
I’ve taken a deep breath and I’m going to go away and return tomorrow when I have calmed down.
I’ve put a picture below. If you look closely you will see the chucks, away in the middle distance, waiting for me to appear to let them out? Not that they will come out because they are frightened of stepping on the snow. Obviously I’ve cleared a little pathway for them across the gravel, under the arch and across the grass (as nut cases do) but they are still highly suspicious of the white stuff!

I’m so glad that you feel as strongly as I do about this Ms Orbell, and very happy that you have the courage to write about it. If animal abuse isn’t exposed, then nothing will ever be done about it. We can only try and help with our words, hoping that they reach the ears of people who can do something solid to stop the rightly named Spineless Little Shits. Thank you! On a lighter note – your garden’s gorgeous! Wow! xxx
Thank you Jo.Even if ‘animal lovers’ stopped standing on spiders it would be a start! Even the tiniest heart that stops beating as the direct result of mankind is still the death of something. And on a lighter note – thanks for the garden comment. There is considerably more behind the chuck cage! Lovely – but time consuming in the summer. But it beats house work!! x
Well if you are a nut case then myself, along with millions of others are part of the same club. I would have saved the spider. I save them over here, even the ones that bite and the scorpions. With reference to any floating insects, naturally they get a fighting chance when we are around. I support you 100 per cent on the animal cruelty stand, with one minor addition – can we torture them first before we shoot the bastards? Ending on a jolly, great to see a beautiful English Garden in the snow and so glad you cleared a path for the chucks.
Ah bless you Nicola. Yes I am with you on the torture. I think we should split their skin from throat to groin and gently (or not) peel it back. I may have just given myself a line of thought for my next novel!! xx
Absolutely agree, though cannot honestly say I like spiders – avoid them if I can. But anyone who hurts an animal should in my view be executed, because an animal cannot fight back. Also widely recognised that serial killers, for instance psychopaths such as Ian Brady killed and hurt animals as children, as a warm up for doing the same to people. Animal lovers are nice – you can have a great social morning chatting to people in vets’ waiting rooms, making friends with their pets.
Medical research, of course, is a whole different area, and sabotaging animal labs who are doing things that are necessary is terrible.
People who don;t like animals I find are often cold, hard and lacking something.
I think every child should have a pet and be taught to take care of its needs before their own. I could never sit down and eat a meal if I knew one of my animals hadn’t been fed first. It couldn’t hurt kiddies to be taught to care for something else instead of growing up self-centred and with the me, me, me attitude!
Ii sounds like some horrifying imagination of some crazed animal rights enthusiast would write, to enrage some uninitiated person, who is ignorant of the ways of an animal shelter, and assumes that their readers are even more so. I’m diagnosed by a physician with a chronic schizophrenia, for forty years, so I guess I’m a nut case, as you call it. But you do seem like a nice girl to me, otherwise.
Thank you for your comments. This is a practice carried out in the fur trade. And like you I find it horrifying. You may be assured that I am a nice girl.
I’m responding to your posts in the UK, because you seem like a nice girl. I’m in the East Coast of the US, and am not looking for more of a relationship than a how do you do on FB.
I’m certain you are, that’s why i’m responding to your posts. I’m only looking for a pleasant how do you do, on Facebook, and I’m getting that from you.
That’s great. I have many ‘friends’ here on my blog and there is always room for one more.
People who abuse animals will also abuse people.
Yes Andrew I am sure you are right x
